Fuseta: a charming and authentic fishing village in the Algarve

The first time we wandered through Fuseta, it all clicked. Narrow streets, cosy little squares, great restaurants, a working harbour and the beach within walking distance. We fell in love with the village on sight.

Fuseta, Fuzeta or Fozeta

The fishing village was once called Fozeta, later Fuzeta, named after its location near the river mouth (foz) of the Rio Tronoco. Today, the official name is Fuseta, although you will still often come across the old name Fuzeta.

Fuseta is just a 25-minute drive from Faro Airport, in the East Algarve, located between Olhão and Tavira. The coastal train that runs along the Algarve also stops here. Fuseta even has 2 train stations.

Fuseta: everything within walking distance

Fuseta has everything you need for a relaxed holiday. An authentic fishing village with traditional houses and narrow streets, charming squares, plenty of good restaurants and terraces, a supermarket and local shops. Add a harbour, a small boulevard, beach and nature. All within easy walking distance.

In the heart of Ria Formosa Natural Park

Fuseta is nestled in the heart of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a unique landscape of lagoons, channels, salt pans, sandbanks and stunning barrier islands. This protected nature reserve stretches for around 60 kilometres along the Algarve coast, between Praia do Garrão and Praia da Manta Rota.

Fish, fish and more fish

In Fuseta, life revolves around the sea. The natural fishing harbour, colourful boats, fishermen’s houses and the market hall form the beating heart of the village. Around the market and throughout the village you’ll find BBQ restaurants where the fish goes straight from the boat to the grill and then onto your plate. It doesn’t get any fresher than this.
